Honoring Saxon

Incentive winner is R. McGrail!  congrats to you!

Saxon, the Airedale rescue extraordinAIRE!

Helping Airedales, in this case it's Saxon the Airedale helping get donations for National Airedale Rescue.

You can see from these photos
he worked very hard at Montgomery 2011

Saxon with his quilt 'sandwich' on

Worn out from a long day of getting donations.

He had a Rally title, Canine Good Citizen title and he had a Therapy Dog title.  Virignia and Saxon went once a month to a local nursing home.  He never failed to bring a smile to the patient faces and they looked forward to his visits. He went weekly to obedience class w/Virginia more for the social aspect.  She used him as her demo dog when teaching her Canine Good Citizen classes.  He loved to be dressed up for the Costume parade every year at the Barktoberfest in Connecticut and was quite a ham and won for Best Costume several years in a row.  He came into ATCMNY Rescue at about 1 yr of age from an elderly woman who was not able to handle a rambunctious young Airedale.  She knew he needed more in life than what she could offer him.  Candy Kramlich took him in and then arranged for his forever home with Virginia and Stephen.  They have had Saxon since that time.  Mom's role was the teacher, disciplinarian, caregiver; Dad's role was playmate.  He loved long walks, especially downtown in Huntington, NY where they'd often be stopped by people admiring what a wonderful dog he was.  He loved all the attention.  He loved his daily slice of cheese that Dad would give him each day when he came home for lunch.  He went on all their vacations w/them and was welcomed at  every place they stayed.  I think he's on the website at one of the hotels they stayed at regularly that was pet friendly. He led a very charmed doggie life - living life to the fullest with every experience he had. His adopters were the best possible home - one rescuers wish they had more of.  They went the extra mile and more. Their hearts are broken today, a heartache we all know too well. Saxon left his paw print firmly on their hearts.

Saxon passed away on Aug. 26, 2012.
 He was approximately 11yrs old.

  2. What a beautiful tribute to Saxon and his wonderful parents Virginia and Steve. I had the pleasure of meeting Saxon when V first adopted him and I've followed his life with V and Steve through pictures and posts on FB. He was a wonderful companion and friend and I know V and Steve are heartbroken. My love to them both. Kelly Jokinen ....

  5. 2 years ago, we had the pleasure of meeting Saxon, Virginia and Steve during our adoption interview. Having recently lost our own Airedale, Guinness, we were not sure if we were ready. Well, Mr. Saxon, arrived at our house in true Airedale style, barking his way down the road, up our driveway, and into our hearts. Saxons visit quickly convinced us, we were ready. Thanks to Virginia, Steve and especially Saxon, we were lucky to be blessed with a lively little guy, Aesop, from NC Airedale Rescue. And then last year, another beautiful Airedale, Daisy, came into our lives via NC Airedale Rescue and the Rescue Railroad. Our condolences to Virginia and Steve .We will miss you Saxon. 6. Not only did I have the pleasure of Saxon's gentle inspiration (to counteract the rambunctiousness of mine!), but I also had the pleasure of "holding" his magnificent little soul in my hands when I sculpted a needle-felting of him in his cute little rain gear.
