Block of the day--Straw Hat
Artist: Patty Eisenbraun
Notes from quilter Pam-
When I do one of the rescue quilt blocks I have to translate the artist's vision of the block into my skills, and I often start out trying one way and then doing the applique in an entirely different way by the time I finish. I just have to see what works.
The Airedale in this block went together pretty easily, but I had a struggle finding the right fabrics and the right mix of fabrics for the flowers. I loved the sweet goofy look of the Airedale in the block I did this year - reminds me of our own goofy little guy Cooper, who came into our lives a year ago through rescue. As for fabrics, I have a pretty good stash of what I call "Airedale colors". I live in the Houston area and the International Quilt Festival is a great place to shop. I have gone as far as taking a snip of my dog's fur with me to match.
